(500) Days of Photographs: Day 392

Star Trails: A First Attempt

Right, before you start, these are not brilliant images, I grant you that. However, in my list of all things photographs that I want to achieve during 2014, I wanted to photograph some star trails. The other night proved the first clear night we have had since… well, since last year at some point, so I grabbed my camera and tripod shortly after 6pm and nipped out into my back garden. It’s not ideal to try this in a town or a city, all the books and websites tell you that, but for a first attempt, I’m pretty okay with the results…

Oh, and one of the tips the books and websites don’t tell you, is the amount of battery these long exposures take up!!

  1. Fine for a first effort, Richard! My Dad and I took some star trail photos via our telescope many moons ago – it’s hard than it looks. My Fuji only extends to 30 second exposures, so I don’t suppose that would be sufficient.
