#2912 – Aspirations
Worthing, January 2020.
The balconies of The Block stretched far above him. While he knew they would never make it beyond the second floor, he wanted to go higher. He wasn’t thinking of the top floors, the upper echelons to which only the Magisters had access. The 121st level was reserved for those with the power, the money, the luxuries. Brendon knew they would never be able to even dream of reaching those heights. But level 10, 15 maybe, just high enough to see out over the slums, to see the edge of the city. From that height, even the hills might be visible.
For now, though, while he was a lowly dredger, he knew he and Marina were lucky; even being able to live in The Block at all was a privilege.
